Kidney Stones

What is a Kidney Stone?

A kidney stone is a solid piece of biological material that forms inside your kidney when there are high levels of certain substances in your urine. At lower levels, these substances are normal and will not cause problems. But when a large amount of this material builds up, it causes severe pain and bleeding.

What is the standard treatment of a Kidney Stone?

At Southside Kidney Specialists, we focus on identifying the source of your kidney stone and treating the problem directly. We can help you figure out what kind of kidney stone you are experiencing, and we can also help you decide when it is time to go to the hospital.

We also focus on small changes and habits you can implement to help you avoid inconvenient and painful symptoms. Our patients with kidney stones are managed by two doctors—an urologist and a nephrologist—to help prevent kidney stones from happening again.
